Member operations on Discord
This page covers the member-side of the Discord bot — checking your status, joining a guild from Discord, and understanding how role assignments stay in sync between AO Master and Discord. The staff side of the same surface lives on Settings → Discord Integration.

/whoami — your status in one message
Type /whoami in any channel the bot can see. The bot replies with a private message (only you can see it) describing where you stand on this Discord server.
The reply varies depending on your state:

| You're a member with a linked Albion character | Shows the guild name + region, your character, your role (Member / Staff / Owner), and Active status. |
| You're a member without a linked character | Same card, but Character reads "not linked". Owners and staff don't strictly need a linked character to do their job — linking adds you to the roster + lets you claim regears like any other member. |

Joining a guild from Discord
There's no /join slash command. The canonical Discord-side path is Enlist:
- The guild owner has the bot enabled in
#⚙️-guild-settingsand an Enlist pipeline configured (creates#📋-enlist-here+ the🎯 Enlistcategory). - You click
[Enlist]in#📋-enlist-here. - The bot opens a private review ticket — named
#enlist-{your-username}by default — where only you + the guild's recruiters can post. - A recruiter runs
/enlist reviewinside the ticket, picks your Albion character (a search against Albion's live API), assigns initial war roles, and clicks Approve. You appear on the web guild's roster with your character linked, and the bot grants you the matching Discord role(s). - The channel stays open — recruiters often keep chatting after approval. When they're done, they run
/enlist done: a transcript is mirrored into the archive forum and the live channel is deleted.

If your guild doesn't have Enlist configured, ask an owner / staff member to set it up, or join via a web join code instead (see Settings → Enlists).
Linking / unlinking your account
Linking is web-side only:
- First-time link happens automatically when a recruiter approves you through
/enlist review(your character + Discord account are bound to a fresh AO Master user record). - Linking an existing AO Master account to your Discord identity uses the web sign-up flow with "Sign in with Discord" on
https://ao-master.com/login.
Unlinking is also web-side: open the AO Master web dashboard, find yourself on the #Members roster, hit the per-member Unlink action. The bot stops posting Discord-side things tied to you; your AO Master account stays intact.
Why no Discord-side /link or /unlink?
The slash forms were retired in favour of pairing the link to the recruiter's /enlist review flow (which already verifies the applicant's Albion character against the live game API). Centralising on the web also means you can manage links from a phone or any other device, not just from inside Discord.
Role sync — how Discord roles track AO Master roles
When you have a linked character and your AO Master web role changes (a staff member adds or removes a role, or you join via Enlist and pick up the default Member role), the bot mirrors that change on the Discord side automatically:
- Web → Discord: A web role assignment fires the bot, which adds the matching Discord role to your Discord user.
- Discord → web (reverse): If an owner / Discord admin strips a bot-managed role off you directly in Discord, the bot — by default — re-applies it to keep the two sides aligned (web is the source of truth). Owners can change this behaviour on Settings → Discord Integration → Roles → Sync mode (modes: Soft / Strict / Off).
- You losing membership entirely: When a staff member kicks you from the AO Master guild, the bot strips every mapped Discord role from your account too.
A guild's role pairings are configured by staff on the web; you don't need to set anything up as a member.
When the bot looks broken
The bot's recovery checklist lives behind the 🆘 Help button on the pinned message in #⚙️-guild-settings (Discord channels overview — §2). The most common fixes:
- Bot doesn't reply to
/whoami— the bot might be offline or the server isn't paired. Run/whoamionce more; if the reply still doesn't come, ask an owner to check the#Discord Integrationpage on the web. - Bot reply says "Bot was removed" — an admin needs to re-invite via the Invite Bot button on the web. Once re-invited, you don't need to re-link — the existing AO Master ↔ Discord pairing is preserved.
- Your Discord role doesn't match your AO Master role — open
#⚙️-guild-settings, the owner can click 🔄 Force Re-sync All to reconcile every linked member's roles in one pass (you'll get a DM if anything changes on your account).
